Job summary

Veritiv Corporation in Texas is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to design and develop solutions for complex applications, system administration, and network concerns. You will manage systems, storage, virtualization, and cloud services while maintaining 24x7 availability and reliability.

The role requires 5–10 years of related experience, strong SQL, Power BI, Tableau skills, and a proactive, service-oriented mindset within IT operations.

Job description

Job Purpose

Our Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing solutions to complex applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform systems management and integration functions.
• Demonstrate initiative through expansion of: technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, business knowledge, and organizational skills.
• Proactively identify any issues with OS functionality, abnormalities in performance, server hardware and software to ensure stability and availability 24X7X365.
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of ITIL Service Management is required. Be able to follow Change, Incident and Problem Management activities.
• Work with cross-functional teams throughout IT to isolate and resolve unplanned outages.
• Respond to alerts from the enterprise monitoring tools, automation and escalation from IT Service Now. Have a strong knowledge of Enterprise Monitoring Tools such as App Man and SolarWinds is critical. Familiarity with Incident Ticketing System (ServiceNow) is a plus.
• Responsible for providing day to day support for OS/HW recovery and availability, System Administration via pro-active monitoring for UNIX/Linux (Solaris, Linux) environments, troubleshooting using native OS tools.
• Troubleshooting and familiarity with various Middleware and Database components (WebLogic, WebSphere, JBOSS and Oracle) is essential.

Additional Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Design, implement, and manage complex systems and infrastructure solutions, including servers, storage, virtualization, networking, and cloud services, to meet business needs and objectives.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement technologies, tools, and best practices to optimize system performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
• Perform system installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation of IT systems and services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT architects, developers, and project managers, to plan, coordinate, and execute system upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
• Conduct capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization to ensure efficient utilization of resources and infrastructure.

Work Experience

• 5-10 years of related job experience.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
• Experience designing data models and visuals using Power BI and Tableau.
• Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short/medium timescales within the overall policy framework.
• Experience writing SQL queries (familiar with primary and foreign keys, as well as joins and aggregate functions).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong customer service skills (friendly, courteous and helpful).
• Strong planning and organization skills are required.
