Job summary

Ocean Solutions is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to build and maintain high-performance client networks. You will design and implement solutions, support operations, and follow established best practices across multiple client environments.

You’ll collaborate with teams to ensure reliable IT services, manage security architectures, and participate in after-hours support rotations. Travel to client sites may be required in Ashburn, VA, with a strong emphasis on proactive problem solving.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of network administration, design, and execution experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of IT management-related experience.
  • 1-2 years of client-focused environment experience.
  • Experience with Windows, Apple OS, HP/Aruba, Cisco Systems, and SonicWall.
  • Strong network infrastructure knowledge: switches/routers/cabling, TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, QoS, routing protocols (EIGRP/BGP/OSPF).
  • Web development basics with HTML/XML, PHP and MySQL.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, and DevOps.
  • Active Directory experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and support client network and computing infrastructure.
  • Administer servers and virtual server clusters.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware, systems, services, equipment, and devices.
  • Monitor and apply performance improvements to network architectures.
  • Design, monitor, and maintain network security systems and technologies.
  • Design and administer software and network security.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, email, and threat management methodologies.
  • Design and manage backup and restore protocols.
  • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Create and maintain documentation for hardware, networks, and systems including standards and processes.
  • Travel to client sites as needed with a personal vehicle.
  • Work on-call after hours and weekends for project work as needed.
  • Monitor queue and cover support extensions and remote tickets as needed.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of building and maintaining high-performance network systems for our clients. From designing and installing cutting-edge solutions to providing expert support and maintenance, you'll play a vital role in keeping their technology running smoothly—all while following Ocean Solutions' proven best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and support client network and computing infrastructure.
  • Perform administration of servers and virtual server clusters.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware, systems, services, equipment, and devices.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of prior experience and the demonstrated ability to be successful in a client-focused environment.
  • Experience with Windows, Apple OS, HP/Aruba, Cisco Systems, and SonicWall.
  • Strong experience in network infrastructure including switches, routers, cabling, racks, firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VPN, Terminal Services, VolP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, NHRP, and PPP.
  • Web development knowledge with previous interaction with markup languages like HTML, XML, etc. and PHP and MySQL.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, and DevOps.
  • Experience with API integration and cross platform automation workflows.
  • Strong experience in VMWare virtualization and Active Directory.
  • Understanding of in-house systems architecture and cloud-based architectures required.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, as well as providing clear communications via email and in person to clients and business associates.
  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting and excels when working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to accurately track timekeeping.
  • Ability to frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, lift up 50 pounds, and perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
