Job summary

Amazon AWS Data Center Engineering seeks a Senior Systems Development Engineer (SysDE) to design and scale control software on the CODESYS IEC 61131-3 platform for data center infrastructure. You’ll develop control logic, SOOs, and support field deployments with occasional on-site travel.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience
• 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 4+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience
• 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience
• 5+ years of experience developing, debugging, and maintaining PLC-based control systems, including experience with the CODESYS platform (Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, or other IEC 61131-3 languages).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain mechanical control systems software on the CODESYS (IEC 61131-3) PLC platform for AWS data center infrastructure.
• Develop and refine control logic, function blocks, and Sequences of Operations (SOO) to meet performance and reliability requirements across varied site types and equipment vendors.
• Perform triage, root-cause analysis, and remediation of control system issues.
• Support first-of-kind builds — the first field deployment of a newly developed controller component — including occasional on-site travel to provide real-time break/fix support.
• Partner with our electrical controls counterparts, Controls Design Engineering, Field Engineering, and other Data Center Engineering teams to develop the next generation of controllers.
• Document control system designs, configurations, and sequences of operation.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of controls development standards and tooling.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide escalation support for critical control system issues.
