Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. seeks a Senior Systems Development Engineer to join the Mechanical Controls team. You will design, deploy, and scale PLC‑based control software on the CODESYS platform for AWS data center infrastructure, delivering reliable, high‑performance control systems.

You will work across software, hardware, and field engineering, developing robust control logic and SOOs, while occasionally traveling on‑site to validate field deployments and provide real‑time support.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience
• 4+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
• 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 4+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience
• 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience
• 5+ years of experience developing, debugging, and maintaining PLC‑based control systems, including experience with the CODESYS platform (Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, or other IEC 61131‑3 languages)

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain mechanical control systems software on the CODESYS (IEC 61131‑3) PLC platform for AWS data center infrastructure.
• Develop and refine control logic, function blocks, and Sequences of Operations (SOO) to meet performance and reliability requirements across varied site types and equipment vendors.
• Perform triage, root‑cause analysis, and remediation of control system issues.
• Support first‑of‑kind builds — the first field deployment of a newly developed controller component — including occasional on‑site travel to provide real‑time break/fix support.
• Partner with our electrical controls counterparts, Controls Design Engineering, Field Engineering, and other Data Center Engineering teams to develop the next generation of controllers.
• Document control system designs, configurations, and sequences of operation.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of controls development standards and tooling.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide escalation support for critical control system issues.
