Job summary

Formlabs, based in Somerville, MA, seeks a Chief Engineer for Hardware Engineering to guide the overall design of a shipping product. You will work across mechanical, optical, electrical, thermal, and embedded domains to ensure high-performance, reliable printers that scale to mass production.

You will partner with product teams, defend design decisions with data, and drive architectural down-selection while owning risks and subsystems. Equity is a key part of compensation.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical development of a complex electro-mechanical product.
• Familiar with broad range of technologies including mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical, material science, motion control and embedded code.
• Demonstrated success across the full product lifecycle from concept to high-volume manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Team to define product-level performance goals and ensure targets are ambitious yet achievable.
• Lead architectural down-selection across engineering domains and manage risk to output a robust system architecture.
• Champion shipping a great product and ensure final performance meets expectations.
• Own readiness for new technologies and coordinate integration into the product.
• Define subsystem requirements and interfaces with domain experts.
• Guide team members through technical implementation and frame problems in terms of customer value.
