Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a System Administrator III to lead the support for VMware, storage, and appliance-based systems, with strong focus on backups, patching, and security. The role includes end-user support during core hours and on-call coverage, plus coordinating with vendors for hardware/software upgrades.

The position requires U.S. Citizenship, ability to pass a federal background check, and extensive multi-platform data center experience.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Able to pass a federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust.
• Extensive experience in a multi-platform data center environment.
• Proficiency with VCenter, SAN Management, and iLO/iDRAC.
• Ability to quickly learn from technical manuals and SOPs.
• Knowledge of LDAP, DHCP, DNS.
• Proficiency in Perl, PowerShell, Windows scripting, and shell scripts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving and decision-making.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and move equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead OS installation, configuration, monitoring, and support for VMware, Storage, and appliance-based systems.
• Provide expert end-user support during core hours and on-call periods, including weekends.
• Spearhead change management procedures in coordination with the CAB.
• Coordinate hardware repairs with vendors and resolve complex issues.
• Analyze new server hardware and software requirements and plan deployments.
• Hardening servers to security baselines and manage patches.
• Maintain inventories for servers and related equipment and software.
• Develop standard operating procedures for routine activities.
• Lead backup and restore efforts, including health checks and incident support.
