The City of Huntsville, AL invites qualified applicants for the Senior Systems Administrator role within the ITS Department. The position centers on provisioning, installing, configuring, operating and maintaining Windows server systems and related infrastructure across LAN/WAN to support city services.

Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in a tech field, possess current Microsoft certifications, and have VMware and SAN experience, with at least five years of Windows administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Current certification in Microsoft methodologies (i.e., MCSA, MCSE) is highly desired.
• Knowledge, training, or experience with VMware software is desired.
• Experience with server virtualization and Storage Area Network (SAN) technology is highly desired.
• Five (5) years of current Microsoft Windows System Administrator work experience is desired.

About our Department:

The Information Technology Service Department’s primary responsibilities are in the areas of providing information technology, developing and implementing recommended standards for information technology, developing and maintaining security policies and systems and coordinating the acquisition of information technology for all City Departments. Our goal is to provide the best data processing services to the City through the effective utilization of existing and new information technology. The ITS Department will implement and support technologies and processes that will increase service to City employees and enhance staff productivity.

Senior Systems Administrator Overview:

This is technical work related to computer servers, networks and related software/hardware. This position is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of server systems software/hardware and related infrastructure in a Microsoft Windows based network. Work also includes supporting the City by planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, maintenance and testing of personal computers and server software/hardware across LAN or WAN networks. Provides end-user technical support for off-the-shelf applications, custom applications, desktop operating systems and server operating systems.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Current certification in Microsoft methodologies (i.e., MCSA, MCSE) is highly desired.
• Knowledge, training, or experience with VMware software is desired.

Necessary Special Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment supplemental application.
