About the job: Senior Systems Administrator

Role(s) Required: Sr. Systems Admin
Location: Remote (anywhere in Canada/USA/South America, but must be able to work on EST with the Canadian team)
Required Start Date: ASAP
Required End Date: 12 months + renewable every year
Type: Contract
Total Hours Approved Per Role: 40h/week
Rate: the max. Salary will be $4k USD/mth on T4 or C2C (5,478.90 CAD)

Summary:
Reporting directly to the CTO and managing the Systems department.
Responsibilities:
- Responsibility over systems and networks.
- Work directly with Development Team Leads and Project Management to manage projects for the website, providing final sign-off/approval for release to production.
- Participate in planning and project discussions with Senior Management for various websites.
- Analyze and assess risks to systems and recommend or implement appropriate changes.
- Continuously assess network and systems security, report concerns directly to the CTO.
- Design systems and network architecture, including capacity planning, hardware, infrastructure, software integration, OS, and performance tuning.
- Act as a single point of escalation for production issues, coordinating resolution efforts.
- Manage risk through monitoring, system redundancy, and backups based on business needs.
- Provide technical assistance across departments including Project Management, Sales, QA, Accounting, Customer Service, Development, and Systems.
- Perform special tasks and projects as assigned by the CTO.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Mentor and assist Systems Administration staff daily.
- Lead by example and provide feedback for performance reviews.
- Facilitate problem-solving and collaboration, ensuring timely decisions.
- Participate in on-call rotation (12pm-8pm EST, 1-week every 4 weeks).
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
- Support experience with web servers.
- Strong background with SAN storage (NFS and iSCSI).
- Experience with ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, Logstash).
- Experience adding/removing nodes, expanding/rebuilding clusters, using InfluxDB.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF.
- Hands-on Linux Systems Administration experience.
- Advanced network administrative skills, including routing, switching, security.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and creativity.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Extensive experience with MySQL, LAN/WAN/VPN, firewall technologies, cloud platforms (OpenStack, oVirt, RHEV), hardware, SAN, switching, load balancing, backup technologies, security, and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet).
- Proficiency with multiple web technologies.
