Job summary

The Dixon Group is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our IT team in Chestertown, MD. You will support VMware, Microsoft 365, Azure, storage, networking, and cybersecurity systems to keep infrastructure secure, reliable, and scalable.

This role requires an experienced IT professional who can troubleshoot complex issues, implement infrastructure improvements, and collaborate with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, CS, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7–10 years administering VMware environments (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi).
• 3–5 years storage, networking, VPNs, firewalls, and cybersecurity.
• Strong Microsoft Server knowledge: AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and 365/Azure.
• Preferred certifications include VMware, O365/Azure, Microsoft Server, Citrix.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support enterprise infrastructure for security, reliability, and availability.
• Administer virtual server environments using VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
• Manage Microsoft server tech and core services: AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and 365.
• Oversee backup, recovery, and DR solutions including Veeam and cloud retention.
• Support Azure cloud services and optimize cloud resources.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and serve as Tier III escalation.

Work Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
Pay Range: $80,000 - $120,000/annually

What You'll Do:

• Maintain and support the organization's enterprise infrastructure, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable, and available for business operations.
• Administer and support virtual server environments using VMware technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
• Manage Microsoft server technologies and core services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365.
• Manage enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions, including Veeam and cloud-based retention systems.
• Support Azure cloud services and assist with the ongoing optimization of cloud-based resources and applications.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and serve as a Tier III escalation resource for complex technical problems.
• Perform system maintenance activities including patching software upgrades, backup administration, and recovery testing.
• Manage and support storage systems, virtualization platforms, Citrix environments, and related infrastructure technologies.
• Support network infrastructure including switches, VLANs, VPN connections, and firewall technologies.
• Help maintain cybersecurity controls through system hardening, patch management, security monitoring, and compliance initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred certifications include VMWare, O365/Azure Professional, Microsoft Server, HP Switch, Firewall, and Citrix.
• 7-10 years of experience administering VMware environments, including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi
• 3-5 years of experience with storage platforms, networking concepts, VPNs, firewalls, and cybersecurity principles.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems and networking protocols
• Strong knowledge of backup and recovery solutions, preferable Veeam, and disaster recovery best practices.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure, server, and application issues in a production environment.
• Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively to address incidents, problems, provide access management, and contribute to infrastructure enhancement projects.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service and support.
