Job summary

Alexander Chapman Ltd. is seeking an experienced Systematic Commodities Portfolio Manager in New York.

You will own and scale a trading book focused on US natural gas and/or power markets, developing research-to-trading capabilities with autonomy and accountability. You will collaborate with quantitative researchers, engineers, and trading leadership, deploying strategies across a robust platform while continuously refining risk management and portfolio construction.

Qualifications

• Proven track record as Portfolio Manager, systematic trader, or senior quantitative investor with ownership of an independent trading book.
• Demonstrable history of generating meaningful live PnL from systematic commodity trading strategies.
• Strong experience trading US natural gas and/or US power systematically.
• Deep understanding of commodity market structure, including physical and financial drivers, liquidity, seasonality, basis and spreads.
• Experience independently developing and deploying systematic strategies from initial research through live trading.
• Strong quantitative background with expertise in alpha generation, signal development, portfolio construction, and systematic investing.
• Strong understanding of risk management, position sizing, drawdown management, hedging, and portfolio optimization.
• Experience working with large-scale market data and backtesting frameworks.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++, with the ability to conduct research independently.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with ownership and independence.

Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, and scale systematic trading strategies focused on US natural gas and/or US power markets.
• Take full ownership of strategy development, portfolio construction, risk management, execution, and PnL.
• Identify and develop new systematic sources of alpha across commodity markets.
• Conduct quantitative research, signal development, backtesting, and strategy optimization.
• Manage positions and risk across US commodity markets with focus on risk-adjusted returns.
• Continuously evaluate live strategies using PnL, risk, and evolving market conditions.
• Collaborate with quantitative researchers, engineers, and trading infrastructure teams to deploy improvements.
• Enhance portfolio construction, position sizing, hedging, and risk management frameworks.
• Contribute to building infrastructure, research capabilities, and scaling the strategy.
