Job summary

Hitachi Rail USA, Inc. in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a Senior System Engineer (Brake) to lead system requirements, interfaces, and verification within the Rolling Stock Engineering Department.

In this fast-paced, international role you will work with suppliers and customers to ensure regulatory compliance, perform design reviews, and prepare installation drawings and test specifications.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in railway sector or complex industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of railway regulations and standards.
  • Experience with IBM DOORS requirements management.
  • Ability to work in an international, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS).
  • Define and manage system interfaces throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyze and assess technical documentation from Suppliers.
  • Prepare and verify system installation/integration drawings/specifications.

Job Description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior System Engineer (Brake) who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks within our Rolling Stock Engineering Department. The position is based in Hagerstown, MD.

Accountabilities
  • Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS)
  • Define and manage system interfaces (both internal and external) throughout the entire project lifecycle
  • Analyze and assess technical documentation from Suppliers
  • Prepare and verify system installation/integration drawings/specifications
  • Conduct design reviews (both internal and with suppliers) for the assigned onboard systems, under the supervision of relevant Engineering Managers and Project Engineers
  • Prepare Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS) as well as Functional Test Specifications (FTS) (including performance tests) for the assigned onboard systems
  • Attend at system stand-alone type test and review of type test reports
  • Support onboard integration, performance testing and validation phases
  • Review design documentation with customers and suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with input requirements, international railway regulations and standards and project constraints (time, cost, quality)
  • Prepare the documentation required for vehicle approval and support the homologation phase
Required Skills / Knowledge
  • 5+ experience in the Railway sector or in complex industrial environments
  • Good knowledge of main railway regulations and standards
  • Good knowledge of IBM DOORS requirements management tool
  • Experience with of engineering processes and railway operations
  • Good knowledge of system engineering and requirements management disciplines
  • Good knowledge of RAMS principles and processes
  • Experience with design verification and validation methodologies
  • Experience with electrical / mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Creo, Catia, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering disciplines
  • Good knowledge of office automation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, international and multicultural environment
  • Good organizational skills, alongside team-working, problem-solving and results-driven mindset
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders (including suppliers, partners, customers)
  • Ability to work within project teams under minimal supervision
  • Availability for occasional short-term national and international business trips

  • Good business acumen combined with solid technical skills

Education / Qualifications

Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics disciplines preferred).

The salary range for this position is $ 98,000 to $ 163,100 per year. Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.

In accordance with the DOT's FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi's substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.
