Job summary

Akina, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer 2 in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, to develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems.

You will work on analytics, large data sets, real-time systems, and business information systems, applying tested design requirements and documenting test results. The role involves leading teams as needed, implementing algorithms to meet performance standards, and collaborating with system engineers to derive software requirements.

Qualifications

• Fourteen (14) years’ experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
• Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience setting up, deploying, and troubleshooting Hadoop, Map / Reduce, Accumulo and Zookeeper.
• Primary development language would be Java.
• Experience writing Map / Reduce applications.
• Experience writing Accumulo iterators and using scanners and Accumulo ingest.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements to derive software design and performance specs.
• Design or modify software to add features and improve performance.
• Debug and fix defects in existing software.
• Integrate software into new or modified systems.
• Develop data queries for databases or data repositories.
• Lead a software development team as appropriate.
• Coordinate software installation and monitor operation to meet specs.
• Review documentation and improve development processes.
