Job summary

Intuitive Surgical in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to drive development of surgical system accessories. The role centers on sustaining high-volume medical devices, solving complex engineering problems, and delivering robust designs for manufacture and automation.

You will collaborate across manufacturing, QA, and suppliers to ensure design transfer, risk management and regulatory documentation are in place, enabling scalable growth and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of medical device experience, preferably sustaining high-volume products.
• Proficiency with CAD to design parts/assemblies and create drawings in a PDM environment; SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience with complex interface compatibility and tolerance analysis.
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T.
• Ability to communicate clearly across all levels and functions.
• Demonstrated systems thinking and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Passion for solving tough technical problems using fundamental principles.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering sustaining support for manufacturing and field issues.
• Design, develop and document components and assemblies for surgical system accessories.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing, test engineering and supplier engineering to transfer designs to production.
• Develop drawings in a regulated environment for high-volume processes (injection molding, machining).
• Develop Design History Files per FDA requirements and engage in risk management and design control.
