Punch Studio in Culver City, CA, is seeking a Senior Surface Pattern & Print Designer to shape collections across home, gift and stationery. You will lead complex projects, mentor designers, and collaborate with Sales, Product Development and Production to bring patterns from sketch to shelf.

With 10+ years of experience, you will drive trend-forward designs, master repeats, and deliver production-ready files while guiding junior team members in a dynamic, fast-paced studio environment.

Qualifications

• BFA/BA in Surface/Textile Design, Illustration, Fine Arts or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years designing surface patterns and prints for products (stationery, wall décor, home goods).
• Strong portfolio of original patterns across styles and product categories.
• Expertise in repeats (half-drop, brick, mirror) and engineered layouts.
• Strong illustration and traditional painting skills; production-ready files in Adobe Creative Suite on Mac.

Based in sunny Culver City, CA, we’re looking for an experienced designer to help lead our talented, passionate team.

Your Role:

As our Senior Surface Pattern & Print Designer, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to shape the look of our collections, bringing fresh, trend-forward patterns, prints and illustrations to life across our full home, gift and stationery assortment. Working hand-in-hand with our Creative Director and Art Directors, you’ll take on our most exciting projects, help set the creative direction for key accounts, and mentor a team of talented designers along the way. You’ll collaborate with Sales, Product Development and Production to see your designs go from sketch to shelf.

This is a hybrid role based in our Culver City studio, with Monday and Friday as optional work-from-home days.

What You’ll Do:

• Leads the most complex surface pattern and print projects, designing original patterns, prints and illustrations digitally or by hand.
• Partners with the CD, ADs and LDs to build collections that shape direction for key accounts and custom business.
• Researches trends in color, motif and print and translates them into original, commercially viable artwork.
• Develops seamless repeats, engineered layouts, placement prints, coordinates and colorways with a strong command of scale, composition and color.
• Presents sketches and concepts for CD/AD/LD review before finalizing designs.
• Expands artwork into cohesive collections and adapts it across products and piece types on deadline.
• Delivers production-ready files, with repeats, resolution, color and embellishment layers (foil, emboss, glitter) accounted for.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of assigned accounts, programs and buyers.
• Provides art direction and creates line plans, mood boards and presentations for account programs, as training toward the Lead level.
• Reviews production job packets before sign-off for assigned accounts.
• Mentors the design team by giving feedback and art direction in CD/AD/Lead absence and serving as a first point of contact for questions.
• Collaborates with Sales, Product Development and Production, and sets the standard for artwork quality and file organization.

To excel as our Senior Surface Pattern & Print Designer, you’ll bring:

• A BFA or BA in Surface/Textile Design, Illustration, Fine Arts or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years designing surface patterns and prints for products such as stationery, wall décor, decorative storage, gift or home goods, including experience mentoring other designers.
• A strong portfolio of original patterns and collections across a range of styles and product categories.
• Expertise in repeats (half-drop, brick, mirror), engineered layouts, placement prints, composition and color.
• Strong illustration and traditional painting skills, with the ability to turn hand-painted work into production-ready files in Adobe Creative Suite on Mac.
• A track record of turning trends into commercially successful collections.
• Full understanding of production from concept to sample, including print methods and embellishments.
• Excellent organization, communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects on deadline.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role is based on-site in an indoor office with a moderate noise level. It involves frequent sitting, with standing and walking during trade shows and customer meetings, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. (samples, displays, trade show materials). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. You must be available to work irregular or extended hours, weekends, and holidays on occasion, particularly during peak seasons.
