Job summary

Punch Studio, based in Culver City, CA, invites a skilled Surface Pattern Designer to create patterns and illustrations for our stationery and gift lines. You will collaborate with the creative team to develop designs that align with our brand identity, ensuring production-ready artwork and on-time delivery.

Ideal candidates have a BA/BS in design and 7+ years in surface design, with strong Adobe Creative Suite skills and a proven eye for color theory and repetition.

Qualifications

• BFA or BA in Design, Illustration, Fine Arts, or related field.
• 7+ years hands-on experience in surface design, especially for stationery or similar product categories.
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and a strong understanding of design principles.

Responsibilities

• Respond to feedback and direction from Creative Director and Art Director to meet timelines.
• Conjure original surface patterns through digital and traditional techniques.
• Stay ahead of trends by exploring marketplaces and curating mood boards.
• Shape product collections by translating trends into cohesive designs that reflect the brand identity.
• Manage multiple design projects from concepts to production-ready artwork.
• Collaborate with production to ensure designs translate accurately to final products.
• Maintain organized workspaces and efficient workflows.
• Provide progress updates and communicate challenges to the team.

• Maintain pristine organization in your workspace (both physical and digital), fostering creativity and efficiency.
• Engage in daily check‑ins to communicate progress and any challenges while contributing positively to our team’s culture.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role is based on‑site in an indoor office with a moderate noise level. It involves frequent sitting, with standing and walking during trade shows and customer meetings, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. (samples, displays, trade show materials). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. You must be available to work irregular or extended hours, weekends, and holidays on occasion, particularly during peak seasons.
