Job summary

RigUp is seeking a Transmission Line Design Specialist to join the Power Networks team in Reading, PA. You will deliver high-quality electrical design and drafting for high-voltage substation projects, working independently or with a multidisciplinary team to produce complete drawing packages and ensure QA against industry standards.

You will liaise with engineers to coordinate designs, generate bills of materials and schedules, review vendor drawings, conduct site walkdowns, and uphold drawing

Qualifications

• Associate degree or diploma in electrical design/drafting required.
• Extensive high-voltage substation design/drafting experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation; knowledge of CAD standards.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Access.

Responsibilities

• Create scaled electrical drawings for HV substation projects, including one-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan/elevations, grounding, and conduit details with minimal supervision.
• Develop complete design drawing packages for formal review and perform quality checks on peer packages.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design systems.
• Generate and review bills of materials, conduit and cable schedules for substation developments.
• Interpret vendor drawings, construction specs and project documentation.
• Manage multiple projects with schedule and budget constraints.
• Assist in conceptual layouts using project data and references.
• Conduct site walkdowns and field visits as required.
• Enforce document management and CAD standards across procedures.

We are seeking a Transmission Line Design Specialist to join the Power Networks team. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, comprehensive electrical design and drafting services for high-voltage substation projects. Operating independently or collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will execute physical electrical drawing packages, ensure strict quality assurance, and adhere to industry standards and client specifications to drive successful project outcomes.

Core Responsibilities

• Execute scaled physical electrical drawings for high-voltage substation projects, including one-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan and elevation views, grounding plans, and conduit details with minimal engineering supervision.
• Develop complete design drawing packages for formal review and perform quality checks on drawing packages prepared by peers.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure fully integrated and coordinated design systems.
• Generate and review bills of materials, conduit schedules, and cable schedules for substation developments.
• Interpret vendor-supplied drawings, construction specifications, and relevant project documentation.
• Manage competing priorities across multiple simultaneous projects while maintaining schedule and budget parameters.
• Assist in conceptualizing preliminary layouts using historical project data and reference materials.
• Conduct site walkdowns and field visits as required to support project requirements.
• Enforce document management protocols and ensure all work product complies with applicable drawing standards, codes, and project procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design / Drafting, or equivalent specialized discipline training.
• Extensive relevant technical design and drafting experience in high-voltage substation environments.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation, including the manipulation of scaled vector and raster files.
• Comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations, electrical codes, manufacturing standards, and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated capability to apply and adhere to varied client CAD standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience with 3D CAD modeling applications.
• Advanced combination of relevant formal education, specialized technical training, and progressive electrical design experience.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills suitable for collaborating closely with senior engineering personnel.
