Job summary

Wind Energy Transmission Texas, LLC. in Big Spring, TX is seeking a Senior Relay Technician to perform maintenance, testing, and commissioning of high-voltage substations with a focus on protection and control (P&C).

The role includes SCADA checkouts, coordinating crews, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while supporting multiple nearby locations. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with relays (SEL/GE), RTUs, and SCADA systems, along with ERCOT protocols and NERC/NETA

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; engineering degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years work experience in substation protection and control.
• Familiar with ERCOT nodal protocols and operating guides.
• Experience with NERC compliance reporting and documentation.
• Experience with substation equipment (breakers, transformers, switches).
• Extensive experience with protection and control equipment (SEL/GE relays, RTUs).
• Knowledge of maintenance practices, codes and safety regulations.
• Experience in commissioning high-voltage station projects.
• Ability to oversee contractors and ensure proper reporting.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, adjust, wire, repair, and switch relay/substation equipment.
• Perform SCADA checkouts and troubleshoot issues.
• Lead internal and contract crews in testing/commissioning activities.
• Conduct diagnostic testing and analyze results for protection/control systems.
• Operate equipment like bucket trucks and forklift when required.
• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and test equipment.
• Prepare and verify routine reports.
• Ensure compliance with WETT safety and environmental policies.
• Interface with contractors, engineers, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Assist in scheduling/restorative work and document in asset database.
• Participate in on-call rotation.
