Job summary

K&A Power Group in Rochester, New York, is seeking a Lead Engineer to join our team. You will drive substation design, oversee project engineering, and guide a skilled team to deliver complex energy projects for utilities and industrial clients.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with contractors, and ensure compliance with IEEE standards and project specifications. This role offers a growth-focused, collaborative environment in a dynamic company.

Qualifications

• ABET‑accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• Minimum eight years of professional experience in substation design for electrical utilities.
• Familiarity with grounding studies and/or lightning protection is a plus.
• Experience with power analysis software (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, etc.).
• Proficient in Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Responsibilities

• Develop SCADA maps RTUs under Avangrid's standards and support testing in the SCADA/EMS system.
• Project engineering performance and overseeing including scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction and closeout.
• Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations.
• Lead and create new conceptual designs based on Avangrid Standards and oversee the work of external detailed designers ensuring consistency among all the operating companies.
• Ensure all engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards.
• Provide technical leadership in complex projects with wide business impact.
• Mentor, develop and support the team in technical skills.
• SME for the team.
• Liaison with contractors on policy, standards and best practices.
• Work independently with little supervision.
