Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to lead design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV). You will guide the project team from concept through completion, including physical layouts, protection, grounding, and auxiliary systems.

The role requires ABET-accredited degree with 7 years of substation experience; FE with 7 years acceptable; PE license preferred. Strong communication and leadership are essential for success in a client-focused, QA/QC-driven

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with 7 years of substation experience.
• Or ABET-accredited Engineering Technology degree with FE exam and 7 years of substation experience.
• PE license strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation projects from concept to completion.
• Develop substation design packages (layout, protection, control, grounding, etc.).
• Develop calculations for insulation, station service, DC systems, voltage drop, cable sizing, conduit fill.
• Prepare design sketches, BOMs, cost estimates, equipment specs.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and client satisfaction.
• Lead field inspections and project scheduling/budget management.
• Prepare proposals with schedules and budgets.
• Collaborate with project team and clients.
