Job summary

LND Technical Services LLC is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to lead design of medium-high voltage substations across the U.S. You will own layouts, equipment selections, and technical execution for complex power projects.

The role requires a PE license and 7–10+ years of utility substation experience, with strong QA/QC and client coordination capabilities. Travel and project leadership are core aspects of this position.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BSEE is required.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
• 7–10+ years of dedicated utility substation design experience.
• Strong knowledge of HV substation components and systems.
• Proficiency with design tools and coding standards.

Responsibilities

Reports to: Vice President of Engineering

Overview

LND Technical Services (LNDTS) is seeking a skilled Engineer to support utility-scale power projects across the U.S., including substations, transmission, distribution, and renewable energy facilities. This role requires frequent travel and offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact projects in the power and utilities sector.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering, design, and quality assurance background of medium to high-voltage utility substation projects. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in our company’s strategic evolution. Having firmly established a reputation in testing and NETA-accredited commissioning, the company is rapidly scaling their internal engineering discipline to transition into a full-service EPC provider

In this position, you won’t just execute projects, you will help build a division. You will take ownership of physical layouts, equipment selection, and the technical execution of complex power projects, while establishing robust quality control standards and mentoring junior engineering staff. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of industry standards, a proven track record of delivering safe, reliable substation designs, and the entrepreneurial mindset needed to thrive during a period of exciting organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of medium-high voltage substation physical layouts, including equipment plans, elevations, sections, rigid/strain bus designs, grounding systems, lightning protection and conduit/trench routing
• Serve as a primary technical reviewer, performing rigorous Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) checks on engineering packages, drawings, calculations and material specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Ensure all designs comply with utility standards, client specifications, and industry codes, including IEEE (e.g., IEEE 80, IEEE 998), NESC and ASCE
• Perform and review critical engineering calculations, including ground grid analysis, lightning protection shielding, bus span calculations and cable ampacity studies
• Act as the lead engineer on assigned projects, coordinating timelines, managing deliverables, and interfacing directly with clients, project managers and construction teams
• Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and designers

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or closely related engineering field from an ABET accredited institution
• Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
• Minimum of 7-10+ years of dedicated experience in utility substation physical design
• Comprehensive knowledge of substation physical design components (transformers, breakers, switches, rigid/flexible bus systems, structures, and control enclosures)
• Strong familiarity with engineering design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bluebeam, and ground grid modeling software like CDEGS)
• Deep working knowledge of IEEE 80, IEEE 998, and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards
• Exceptional attention to detail, strong leadership capabilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
