ENERCON's Power Delivery group is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to join the team in the Orlando, FL, Dallas, TX, Kennesaw, GA, or Nashville (Madison), TN office. This position is also open to other ENERCON locations in the Mountain, Central, and Eastern time zones, and possibly remote for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate and contribute toward complex projects in both a design and project leadership capacity, interfacing with our current and future customers directly, while working on challenging and exciting low to high voltage substation engineering projects.
- Act as the subject matter expert for detailed 4kV - 500kV substation physical design and/or protection control and SCADA design projects.
- Deliverables include one-line drawings, general arrangement drawings, section and plan views, conduit and cable plans & schedules, grounding plans, foundation drawings, Bill of Materials, and construction aids.
- Protection and control engineering project deliverables include relay one-line drawings, schematic drawings, panel front drawings, Bill of Materials, control house layouts, wiring diagrams, and construction letters.
- Review relay settings files and collaborate with relay settings engineers to ensure accuracy.
- Lead substation design projects as needed.
- Perform design calculations such as ground grid analysis, lightning protection, lighting, bus calculations, and voltage drop analyses.
- Conduct quality control checks on physical and protection/control designs.
- Coordinate with Protection & Controls, Structural, Civil, Transmission, and Drafting teams.
- Develop technical specifications and work scopes for equipment and construction.
- Perform physical designs using Microstation, AutoCAD, or similar CAD tools as needed.
- Ensure accurate, timely delivery of designs that meet standards and client expectations.
- Provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning when required.
- Produce project estimates, schedules, and budgets.
- Conduct quality checks on engineering designs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in substation engineering design.
- Proficiency with Microstation, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
- Experience with WinIGS is preferred.
- PE license is strongly preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
- Willingness to enter energized substations with proper training and PPE.
- Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows.
