Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Substation Designer to deliver Protection & Control (P&C) and Physical Design packages for electrical utility, industrial, and data center substations. You will develop wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and station layouts, while coordinating with civil, structural, and protection teams.

The role requires deep substation experience, proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation, and a strong understanding of NEC/NESC/IEEE standards. Hybrid work model offered in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering technology or related discipline.
• Minimum 12 years of substation design experience.
• Experience in P&C and Physical Design for AIS and GIS Substations.
• Experience on substation projects from 12 kV through 500 kV.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable design software.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain complete P&C point-to-point wiring design packages.
• Prepare panel wiring diagrams and relay panel layouts.
• Develop cable schedules and cable routing plans.
• Perform DC and AC distribution breaker and fuse sizing.
• Develop station one-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, and elevations.
• Develop grounding plans, lightning protection, conduit and raceway layouts.
• Coordinate equipment locations and clearances.
• Verify site conditions and gather field data during walks.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior designers and drafters.
