Job summary

The State of Hawai'i is seeking a permanent, full-time Substance Abuse Specialist III with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. This role provides intervention services within a multidisciplinary team, develops treatment plans, and contributes to education and program policy development.

Salary ranges from $5,107 to $6,221 per month (SR-20, Step D to I). Requires a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience; PREA and other requirements may apply.

Qualifications

  • Fundamental concepts of pharmacological properties and effects of psychoactive substances on users.
  • Fundamental concepts of behavioral, psychological, social and health effects of psychoactive substances on users.
  • Alcohol and drug use continuum in individuals.
  • Varying causes of addiction.
  • Relationship between substance use and infectious diseases.
  • Effects of chronic substance use on individuals and families and communities.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provide substance abuse intervention treatment services to a full range of users.
  • Conduct educational, treatment and therapeutic classes.
  • Develop, evaluate and modify program policies, treatment approaches and curricula.
