Job Description

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of School Operations, the Senior Student Wellbeing & Care Coordinator will support student wellbeing, retention, and success across undergraduate and graduate programs in The Design School.

This is a new position, reflective of The Design School's commitment to helping each and every student achieve their goals. The Design School's Student Experience & Success model is organized around a collaborative network of professionals focused on recruitment and learner pathways, academic progress and advising, learning systems and processes, and community, belonging, and wellbeing. Working within this matrix structure, the Senior Student Wellbeing and Care Coordinator serves as a primary point of coordination for students experiencing academic, personal, financial, health, or other challenges that may impact their ability to thrive and persist toward degree completion.

Working closely with students, faculty, staff, HIDA Student Engagement, the Dean of Students Office, and university partners, the position helps students navigate complex support systems, access appropriate resources, and remain connected to their academic and campus communities. The role contributes to a proactive and holistic approach to student support that emphasizes relationship-building, continuity of care, early intervention, and coordinated support across multiple university services. This is not a counselling position, per se, but the ability to connect with students and guide them to appropriate resources and support will be crucial to success. The incumbent will help develop the role as they grow in familiarity with our students and their specific needs, helping to identify the biggest challenges we must tackle and optimal solutions. They will have the opportunity to bring outside-the-box thinking to the process of developing, implementing and evaluating student success operations that directly impact retention, wellbeing, and timely degree progression.

This position plays an important role in strengthening student wellbeing, fostering a culture of belonging and care, and supporting timely degree progression and student success. The successful candidate will combine empathy, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills to coordinate complex and sensitive situations while maintaining a student-centered approach.

Position Salary Range

• $54,600 - $58,500 annually

Essential Duties

Student Support & Engagement

• Lead Community of Care student support for The Design School in partnership with college support staff, including high-volume case coordination and follow-up communications.


• Support student wellbeing initiatives across undergraduate and graduate populations, promoting belonging, wellness, and connection to The Design School community.


• Collaborate with colleagues leading Academic Probation and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) processes for The Design School students, ensuring timely communication and supporting students in meeting academic expectations and progressing toward degree completion.


• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of procedures and systems that support student wellbeing, inclusive excellence, retention, and degree progression.


• Develop a comprehensive understanding of student support resources available across ASU, build relationships with university partners, and assist students in navigating complex support systems.


• Assists with the Course Grievance and Academic Concern processes involving students receiving support through Community of Care efforts, including tracking submissions, coordinating with faculty, and helping ensure appropriate resolution pathways


• Collaborate with student organizations and clubs by providing guidance, referrals, and coordination support that contributes to student engagement and community-building opportunities.

Program Coordination & Cross-Unit Collaboration

• Coordinate with Herberger Institute's Student Engagement, Creative Career Services, and unit leadership to ensure cohesive and holistic support for all students.


• Partner with faculty and staff to identify emerging student needs, barriers to student success, and opportunities to strengthen retention, wellbeing, and belonging.


• Assist with planning and facilitating workshops, orientation activities, community-building programs, and targeted interventions that increase awareness of available support resources and The Design School's commitment to student success.


• Serve as a collaborative member of The Design School's Student Experience & Success team, contributing to an integrated model of learner support across recruitment, advising, student wellbeing, and learning systems.

Data Management & Reporting

• Maintain detailed records in the respective databases for Community of Care, Course Grievance and Academic Concern, and identify other areas where better data collection and application can further improve the student experience.


• Analyze data to identify trends related to student wellbeing, retention, persistence, and student success, using university systems such as Analytics and Salesforce.


• Identify opportunities where improved data collection, reporting, and application can strengthen student support and the overall student experience.


• Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership to inform strategic decision-making, resource allocation, and long-term planning.

Desired Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Education, Human Services, or a related field.


• Two years' post-graduate degree professional experience.


• Professional experience supporting students or clients in higher education, social services, case management, or related settings.


• Demonstrated ability to support individuals experiencing academic, personal, financial, health, or other complex challenges with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment.


• Experience coordinating care, navigating support systems, and connecting individuals with appropriate resources and services.


• Experience working in high-volume environments involving sensitive and confidential situations.


• Experience facilitating workshops, outreach programs, or other initiatives that support student wellbeing, belonging, and success.


• Experience using data, reports, or student success systems to identify trends and inform decision-making.


• Strong organizational, communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.


• Experience managing confidential, sensitive, and high-stakes communication with student populations, faculty, and staff.


• Experience teaching, training, or facilitating workshops, especially in roles supporting student development, conflict resolution, or academic skill-building.


• Experience running reports and using data to make informed decisions regarding student success and retention

Working Environment

• Activities are primarily performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of remaining in a stationary position, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.


• Frequently required to remain in a stationary position and move throughout the shift.


• Required to work a flexible work schedule, including occasional evening and weekend events.
