Senior Structural Project Manager

GFT is seeking a creative, highly talented leader for immediate employment in our Mechanicsburg, PA, Valley Forge, PA, Baltimore, MD, Fairfax, VA, Washington, DC, or Downtown Philadelphia office. The role focuses on creating efficient, innovative structural solutions that support sustainability and performance in every project.

Responsibilities

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead and manage structural design efforts across a variety of projects, including buildings, train stations, transit and rail facilities, transportation infrastructure, water and wastewater structures, industrial structures, dam-related structures, and other facility-related structural systems.
  • Serve as overall project manager for multidisciplinary projects, coordinating scope, schedule, budget, staffing, deliverables, client communication, and internal discipline coordination.
  • Serve as structural discipline lead on larger multidisciplinary projects where another project manager is responsible for overall project delivery.
  • Manage structural engineering tasks for projects involving new design, rehabilitation, repair, retrofit, expansion, and evaluation of existing structures.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance, training, coordination support, and quality control reviews.
  • Prepare and review construction documents, including plans, details, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct reviews of contractor submittals such as shop drawings, RFIs, and substitution requests.
  • Perform structural observations on existing and new structures.
  • Develop clear, concise, and well‑organized technical reports and design documentation.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of building codes, structural design standards, and construction practices.
  • Apply advanced knowledge in structural systems including masonry, steel, and concrete; familiarity with wood design is considered a plus.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, and contributing to proposal preparation and project pursuit efforts.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrate strong time‑management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Maintain a commitment to project schedules, budgets, and client satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify and solve technical and project‑management challenges.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering is required.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience working as a structural design engineer and project manager.
  • Familiarity with RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, TEDDS, and other structural engineering analysis and design software.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $125,000 – $175,000, depending on experience.
