Champion Integrated Building Solutions (CIBS) is seeking a Senior Structural Project Engineer to lead the structural engineering, design coordination, and technical execution of commercial, industrial, and modular building projects from concept through final production. This position serves as the technical authority for structural systems, ensuring designs meet customer requirements, applicable building codes, manufacturing capabilities, and project schedules.
The Senior Structural Project Engineer collaborates closely with Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customers to develop safe, cost-effective, and manufacturable structural solutions while mentoring junior engineers and supporting continuous engineering improvement.
Qualifications
- Lead the structural engineering and design of assigned projects from initial concept through production and project completion.
- Develop structural calculations, engineering analyses, and design solutions in accordance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and customer specifications.
- Review architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings to ensure proper coordination with structural systems.
- Prepare, review, and approve structural drawings, fabrication packages, calculations, and engineering documentation.
- Perform structural analysis for steel structures, modular buildings, equipment supports, platforms, and related fabricated systems.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to support project schedules, budgets, engineering deliverables, and customer expectations.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing to optimize designs for fabrication efficiency, constructability, and cost reduction.
- Provide engineering support throughout manufacturing, resolving design questions and field issues as they arise.
- Review customer specifications, contracts, and technical requirements to ensure engineering compliance.
- Conduct engineering reviews and quality checks prior to release for fabrication.
- Evaluate engineering changes and recommend solutions while minimizing impacts to project cost and schedule.
- Participate in customer meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions as the structural engineering representative.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance, training, and engineering oversight.
- Assist in developing engineering standards, design procedures, calculation templates, and best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering efficiency, quality, safety, and innovation.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, revision history, calculations, and project records.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, applicable building codes, company standards, and engineering ethics.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering or related engineering discipline required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Minimum 7–10 years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience designing steel structures, modular buildings, industrial facilities, or fabricated systems required.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or fabrication operations preferred.
- Experience with customer-facing engineering projects strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of structural engineering principles and steel design.
- Strong understanding of the International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, AISC Steel Manual, AISI, and other applicable engineering standards.
- Ability to perform structural calculations for gravity, wind, seismic, and other applicable loading conditions.
- Strong understanding of fabrication methods and design for manufacturability.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects while meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lead technical discussions with customers, contractors, architects, and internal teams.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to engineering quality and accuracy.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
- Experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, RAM Structural System, SAP2000, or similar.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with ERP systems within a manufacturing environment preferred.
Preferred Certifications
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Structural Engineer (SE) License (preferred)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry (preferred)
Working Conditions
This position is based at Champion Integrated Building Solutions' Humble, Texas facility and requires regular interaction with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and project management teams. Routine visits to production areas are required to support fabrication, troubleshoot engineering issues, verify design implementation, and collaborate with operations personnel.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to access manufacturing and warehouse environments while wearing required personal protective equipment when necessary.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers and mobile communication devices.
