Job summary

Kratos Defense and Security Solutions is seeking an experienced engineer to review structural designs, ensure compliance with building codes, and collaborate on design solutions. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of experience in engineering, preferably in defense operations, and will interact with peers and customers effectively.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in professional engineering, preferably in defense or DoD.
  • Experience in Auto-Cad and 3-D modeling software is required.
  • Ability to follow safety precautions with personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Review structural designs for compliance with codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with teams on design trade studies.
  • Prepare and update task lists and track schedules.

Job description

Job Description
  • Review structural designs for compliance with the Unified Facilities Code (UFC), International Building Code (IBC), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
  • Design structural systems to account for transport, live, and seismic loads.
  • Collaborate with designer and analyst to perform design trade studies and determine structural design solutions.
  • Attend job kick-off meetings and participate in design reviews with customers.
  • Review customer requirements including specifications, statements of work, and interface drawings to ensure compliance with contracts.
  • Prepare and update task lists.
  • Track schedules and budgets on assigned programs.
  • Issue long lead material.
  • Provide technical input to the CAD design team on various tasks.
  • Review and approve drawings.
  • Interface with other departments to resolve questions and technical issues.
  • Create technical proposals, technical materials, and procurement specifications.
  • Support the sales department in proposal development and engineering estimates.
  • Review vendor/shop drawings, quotes, and proposals.
  • Resolve vendor issues and disposition defective material; create Cost Schedule Impact Logs (CSILs) for added scope.
  • Submit Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
  • Interface with customers and contracts to resolve customer-related issues.
  • Contribute to product improvement, new products, and product standardization.
  • Mentor Associate Mechanical Design Engineers and Mechanical Design Engineers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position may have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience
  • BSME/BSMET degree in technical field.
  • 6+ years professional engineering experience.
  • Experience with Auto-Cad, 3-D modeling software, etc.
  • Defense/DoD-engineering background preferable.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
