Job summary

BLUE ORIGIN is seeking a senior structural engineer to own the design, analysis, and qualification of launch vehicle structures. You will lead 3D modeling, drawings, and interface control, ensuring producibility and reliability for the New Glenn program.

You will size structures using hand calculations and FEA, drive design reviews, and provide mentorship to junior engineers. Expect collaboration across design, manufacturing, testing, and operations in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering and typically 5–8+ years of related experience with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Significant experience with structural design of metallic aerospace hardware, fluid systems, and/or structural composites and exposure to full lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware in production or test environments.
  • Strong structural design skills using CAD (Creo/Windchill preferred), hand calculations, and FEA tools.
  • Deep understanding of metallic design fundamentals, structural load paths, and bolted joint design/analysis.
  • Proficiency with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and familiarity with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive tasks to completion and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key contributor for structural design and configuration of launch vehicle structures.
  • Lead design efforts: 3D models, drawings, assemblies, interfaces, and interface control documents.
  • Plan and perform structural sizing using hand calculations and FEA; coordinate with analysts.
  • Resolve hardware nonconformances and support MRB and failure investigations.
  • Develop structural test plans, specs, and procedures for development, qualification, and acceptance tests.
  • Lead subsystem test planning, data reduction, and analysis; translate results into design updates.
  • Coordinate across design, manufacturing, test, and operations to ensure producibility and reliability.
  • Apply GD&T and drawing standards to ensure clear manufacturable definitions.
  • Identify improvements for efficiency, reliability, and cost reduction.
  • Mentor level 1–2 engineers and communicate status to leadership.
