Job description

Senior Investigative Engineer / Practice Leader

Build Something Bigger Than Your Next Project

Are you an experienced structural, forensic, or investigative engineer looking for an opportunity to do more than manage projects?

This is a unique chance to help build and lead a growing Investigative Engineering practice in Atlanta while being backed by the resources, reputation, and national reach of a firm with more than 80 years of engineering excellence. As a senior leader, you'll play a key role in expanding the firm's presence across Georgia and the Southeast, developing client relationships, mentoring engineers, and shaping the future direction of the practice.

Whether your expertise lies in forensic investigations, structural restoration, existing buildings, building envelope consulting, or repair and rehabilitation design, this role offers the opportunity to combine technical excellence, business development, and leadership into a highly visible career path.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

This is not a traditional senior engineering position.

You'll have the opportunity to help establish and grow the Atlanta Investigative Engineering Group as a market leader across Georgia and the Southeast, supporting clients with:

  • Structural investigations and failure analysis
  • Existing building assessments
  • Structural restoration and rehabilitation
  • Building envelope consulting
  • Façade and access system evaluations
  • Non-destructive testing
  • Structural repair design
  • Expert witness and litigation support services

As the practice continues to expand, you'll play a central role in:

  • Defining the strategic direction of the Atlanta investigative engineering practice
  • Developing and strengthening relationships with owners, architects, contractors, attorneys, and property managers
  • Driving business development and market growth initiatives
  • Mentoring and developing engineers across the team
  • Leading high-profile and technically challenging projects
  • Building a respected presence within the Georgia engineering community
  • Helping recruit and grow a successful investigative engineering team

For engineers who aspire to move beyond project execution and into true practice leadership, this role offers a rare opportunity to build something meaningful with the backing of a nationally recognized organization.

The Role

This position blends technical leadership, project management, client engagement, and business development.

A typical week may include:

  • Leading complex structural investigations and building assessments
  • Developing repair, retrofit, and restoration solutions for existing structures
  • Performing site evaluations and field investigations
  • Reviewing structural failures, deficiencies, and performance concernsPreparing technical reports, calculations, specifications, and engineering deliverables
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, and client expectations
  • Supporting proposal development and fee negotiations
  • Participating in business development and industry networking activities
  • Collaborating with architects, contractors, attorneys, and building owners
  • Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
  • Supporting construction administration and project execution through completion

  • Opportunity to help shape and grow a market‑leading practice
The Opportunity Ahead

Atlanta continues to experience significant demand for structural investigations, restoration, rehabilitation, and existing building consulting as aging infrastructure, deferred maintenance, reserve studies, and risk management concerns drive investment in the built environment.

This role places you at the forefront of that growth.

If you're looking for an opportunity where your experience can influence not only projects, but the future direction of an expanding investigative engineering practice, we'd love to connect. Join a firm where you'll have the autonomy to lead, the resources to grow, and the opportunity to build a market-leading investigative engineering group in Atlanta.
