Job summary

Jacobs in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead designs for electrical utility infrastructure, mentor junior staff, and review project designs for cost and constructability. You will work with global teams, ensure compliance with client standards, and guide projects through stage gate processes while delivering robust, buildable structures for substations and energy facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university.
• Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in structural engineering for electrical utility clients.
• Experience with substation, transmission, distribution, or thermal generation facilities.
• Proficient in Mathcad, RISA, STAAD, and related structural analysis tools.

Responsibilities

Job description

Responsibilities

• Work effectively with multi‑disciplinary global project teams, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to a learning environment, support fellow engineers, and participate in mentorship activities.
• Support the team in fostering an inclusive culture that values diversity of thought and reflects Jacobs’ Culture of Caring.
• Provide technical direction and review of designs developed by intermediate and entry‑level engineers.
• Review existing client standards for incorporation into program and project delivery.
• Review designs for cost‑saving opportunities and consistency.
• Develop conceptual designs and scopes of work for projects undergoing regulatory approvals.
• Respond to contractor requests for information (RFI).
• Attend and participate in project pre‑bid meetings.
• Perform technical reviews of bids received and recommend the most qualified bid.
• Attend construction kickoff meetings.
• Lead constructability meetings with the construction oversight team.
• Guide the project through engineering activities in the stage gate process.
• Review as‑built drawings and approve them when finalized.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university.
• Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in structural engineering, preferably for electrical utility clients, with experience in electrical substation, transmission and distribution, or thermal generation facilities.
• Experience in structural engineering aspects of utility projects, focusing on designs for structures typically used within an electrical substation and/or related energy infrastructure.
• Proficient in structural analysis tools such as Mathcad, RISA, STAAD, STAAD Foundation, RISA3D, RISA Foundation, LPile, etc.
