Job summary

Jacobs in the United States seeks a senior structural engineer for utility projects to provide technical direction across multi-disciplinary teams and clients. You will guide conceptual designs, review substation structures, and contribute to regulatory approvals, with a strong emphasis on reliability and safety.

You will mentor engineers, review designs, and lead constructability and pre-bid activities while ensuring design integrity and compliance with client standards and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering, preferably for electrical utility clients, with experience in electrical substation, transmission and distribution, or thermal generation facilities.
  • Experience in structural engineering aspects of utility projects, focusing on designs for structures typically used within an electrical substation and/or related energy infrastructure.
  • Proficient in structural analysis tools such as Mathcad, RISA, STAAD, STAAD Foundation, RISA3D, RISA Foundation, LPile, etc.

  • Respond to contractor requests for information (RFI).
  • Attend and participate in project pre‑bid meetings.
  • Perform technical reviews of bids received and recommend the most qualified bid.
  • Attend construction kickoff meetings.
  • Lead constructability meetings with the construction oversight team.
  • Guide the project through engineering activities in the stage gate process.
  • Review as‑built drawings and approve them when finalized.
