Burns & McDonnell is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead marine structure designs and drive project execution across the port and maritime practice in the Norfolk area.

You will collaborate with local and national teams, manage budgets and schedules, and mentor junior staff while ensuring safety and quality standards. Travel to project sites will be required as part of responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited program with FE exam completion, or a master’s degree with PE licensure.
• PE license required.
• EPC project experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE-7).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading the design of large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
• Ability to travel.

Responsabilités

• Lead structural design from the conceptual phase through design completion for projects with a focus on marine structures (piers, wharfs, bulkheads, fender systems).
• Develop project fees, schedules, scopes, budgets and manage change orders.
• Apply expert knowledge to complex projects and provide quality reviews of production drawings.
• Participate in construction administration, field inspections and testing of materials.
• Lead client relationships with port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines and shipyards; pursue new business opportunities.
• Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements; prepare and present budgets and cost estimates.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers; ensure QA/QC and safety compliance.
