Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for planning, review, design, and construction management of the structural elements of a wide range of public works projects. A Senior Structural Engineer should have the ability to manage multiple structural public works projects simultaneously while being a proven project manager.

We only consider candidates living locally or within the State of CA. We do not pay any relocation expenses.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, construction diagrams, plans, blueprints, and specifications, and evaluate them for compliance with governing codes and standards.
  • Strong understanding of California Building Standards Codes and Referenced Standards.
  • Exhibit sound judgment reading and interpreting code requirements.
  • Suggest alternate forms of compliance with codes and ordinances.
  • May supervise plans examiners, plan check engineers, and/or structural engineers.
  • Prepare and present effective oral and written reports.
  • Represent the department at internal and external meetings.
  • Stay current on legal and technical developments pertaining to building construction and codes.
  • Mentor and train engineers and plans examiners.
  • Perform structural design reviews on a variety of structures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 6 to 14 years of industry experience, including 5 years of reviewing plans for conformance to model codes.
  • Current SE California License is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • ICC Certified Building Plans Examiner is desired.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal effectively with everyone regardless of technical expertise.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to drive to job sites and walk in and through job sites for extended periods.
  • Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Work with detailed, finely printed documents.

The compensation for this position is $125,000 to $170,000 annually

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
