Job summary

Allied Steel Buildings, Inc. seeks an experienced Structural Engineer to support Field Service with structural analysis, repair details, and sound judgment during erection, installation, and post-construction of pre-engineered metal buildings and steel structures.

The role collaborates with Field Service, Engineering, Detailing, and Fabrication to resolve field conditions quickly, safely, and in compliance with codes. Based in Texas preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer license required; Structural Engineer license a plus.
• Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience in PEMB or related fields.
• Experience with MBS design software is required.
• Ability to evaluate and resolve field conditions on medium/high complexity structures.
• Extensive knowledge of building codes including seismic design for metal/steel buildings.
• Understanding manufacturing and fabrication for PEMB structures.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking under field time constraints.
• Self-motivated, creative, and adaptable.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Friendly, professional, team-oriented attitude.
• Spanish) proficiency a plus.
• Based in Texas preferred;Dallas/Waco area near McGregor, TX preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary structural engineering resource for Field Service, addressing erection, installation, and field construction challenges for PEMB and steel structures.
• Evaluate as-built field conditions, discrepancies, and non-conformances; develop code-compliant repairs.
• Review and seal engineering calculations, repair details, and field modification drawings; pursue licenses in additional states.
• Respond promptly to RFIs and guide erection crews, PMs, and Field Service to minimize schedule impact.
• Conduct site visits to assess conditions and support Field Service on complex issues.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Detailing, and Fabrication to resolve field issues and reduce recurrence.
• Provide guidance on connections, member reinforcement, and repair methods for medium/high complexity structures.
• Document field observations, actions, and justifications per Allied standards.
• Support and mentor Field Service on structural behavior and erection sequencing.
• Stay current with AISC/AISI specs and ASCE 7, IBC, MBMA editions.
• Protect the public with sound engineering judgments, not overly conservative approaches.
• Research code changes and propose updates to Field Service procedures.
