Job summary

SSOE Group is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer in Nashville, Tennessee to design and execute a variety of projects across the United States. In this role, you will be responsible for complex structural evaluations while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a preferred PE status, and experience with commercial projects. We offer a hybrid work schedule, competitive salary, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience with SSOE as Engineer 4 or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with commercial projects in health, education, government, higher education, retail, or airports.

Responsibilities

  • Apply extensive engineering knowledge across assignments.
  • Make independent decisions on engineering problems and lead project engineering tasks.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct medium to large engineering projects.
  • Represent the firm in meetings to resolve key issues.
  • Supervise and review the work of a team of engineers and designers.

Skills

Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA
Knowledge of building codes and standards: IBC, ASCE 7, ASIC, ACI
Working knowledge of Revit
Strong client-facing communication skills
Experience with multi-discipline coordination

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering
PE or PE-tracked status preferred

Job description

SSOE seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to design and execute diverse commercial projects across the United States, including K‑12 schools, corporate offices, and retail facilities. The role involves complex structural evaluations, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and leadership from concept to completion.

Responsibilities
  • Apply extensive engineering knowledge across assignments.
  • Make independent decisions on engineering problems, develop unique design solutions, and lead project engineering tasks as appropriate.
  • Represent the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve key issues and coordinate projects.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and direct medium to large engineering projects or multiple smaller complex projects, ensuring budget, schedule, quality, and inter‑discipline coordination.
  • Approve or reject major items related to materials, equipment, and field construction.
  • Serve as staff advisor or consultant in a specialized discipline using advanced techniques.
  • Provide supervision and guidance for overall objectives, new concepts, policy matters, and complex problems.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of a team of engineers and designers on the same project.
  • Define project scope and break into manageable tasks.
  • Notify supervisors and project managers of scope changes.
  • Maintain continuing professional education in the discipline.
  • Participate in client contact and business development activities.
  • Meet with clients to define scope, present progress, and ensure satisfaction.
  • Travel required.
  • Valid driver's license required; may be waived for international assignments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, qualifying for licensure in the state of practice.
  • PE or PE‑tracked status preferred; two or more years of experience with SSOE as Engineer 4 or equivalent experience with eight or more years of related practice, or five years at SSOE as Engineer 4 or eleven years of related practice if not registered.
  • Experience with commercial projects in health, education, government, higher education, retail, or airports.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as RISA.
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards: IBC, ASCE 7, ASIC, ACI, and related codes.
  • Working knowledge of Revit.
  • Strong client‑facing communication skills and experience leading technical discussions with architects, contractors, and owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi‑discipline coordination, review processes, and change control in complex projects.
