Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) seeks a Senior Structural Engineer (Associate Principal) in Austin to lead bridge and civil infrastructure projects with direct client interaction and mentor junior staff.

You will manage investigations, design, rehabilitation, and diagnostics, using state-of-the-art testing capabilities and an established client network across WJE’s TA practice. Expect an ownership mindset and performance-driven culture.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas or ability to obtain by comity.
• Master's degree or PhD in civil/structural engineering or related field; significant relevant expertise considered in lieu of degree.
• Minimum 15 years of structural engineering experience including investigation, design, repair/retrofitting for bridges and civil infrastructure.
• Demonstrated business development and client relationship skills.
• Established regional network including TxDOT collaborations.
• Excellent technical, graphical, written and verbal communication skills.
• Certifications: NHI Bridge Inspection and precertification in Bridge Design preferred.

Responsibilities

• Project management including client development, scope, teams, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Technical leadership with sound engineering judgment and codes; act as SME for bridges and CI projects.
• Mentorship within local and company-wide teams on technical topics and career development.
• Contribute to Civil Infrastructure practice and company objectives by pursuing new client relationships and industry involvement.
