Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead design and execution of structural steel and foundations for major capital projects in Houston. You will prepare calculations, develop specs, and coordinate with procurement, construction, and other engineering disciplines to ensure compliance with project requirements.

The role requires 5–15 years of experience, a Texas or Louisiana PE license (or ability to obtain in four months), and proficiency with major structural software.

Qualifications

• Approximately 5-15 years of experience supporting design and execution of major capital projects.
• Active PE license in Texas and/or Louisiana or ability to obtain Texas PE within four months.
• EIT candidates will be considered if they have passed the PE exam.
• Experience with structural engineering software is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review structural calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical reports.
• Design structural steel, foundations, equipment supports, pipe racks, process structures, modules, and related systems.
• Ensure work complies with project specs, design criteria, codes, and quality requirements.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to resolve design interfaces.
• Review supplier documentation for compliance and provide technical follow-up.
• Support procurement, fabrication, construction, and field activities.
• Identify design alternatives to improve constructability, cost, or schedule.
• Monitor activities against priorities and deliverables.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
• Interface with procurement, planning, construction, and project management.
• Resolve technical issues during fabrication and construction.

Job description

The Senior Structural Engineer will support the design and execution of structural steel and foundation scopes for major capital projects. Responsibilities will include engineering calculations, technical specifications, material requisitions, and other engineering deliverables associated with pipe racks, process structures, building framing, equipment support structures, modules, foundations, and miscellaneous structural supports.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review structural engineering calculations, specifications, material requisitions, technical reports, and other project deliverables.
• Perform and/or coordinate the design of structural steel, foundations, equipment supports, pipe racks, process structures, modules, and related structural systems.
• Ensure engineering work complies with applicable project specifications, design criteria, codes, standards, and quality requirements.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to resolve technical and design interface issues.
• Review supplier and vendor documentation for compliance with project requirements and provide technical follow-up as required.
• Support procurement, fabrication, construction, and field activities related to structural scopes.
• Identify practical design alternatives that may improve constructability, cost, or project schedule.
• Monitor assigned engineering activities against project priorities, schedules, and deliverable requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and support to less-experienced engineers and designers.
• Interface with project functions including procurement, planning, construction, and project management.
• Support resolution of technical issues that arise during fabrication and construction.

Role Scope

• Work independently on assigned structural engineering scopes.
• Provide technical oversight and guidance to junior engineering personnel as required.
• Maintain responsibility for the technical quality of assigned structural steel and foundation engineering work.

Requirements

• Approximately 5-15 years of experience supporting the design and execution of major capital projects.
• Previous field or construction-site experience is preferred.
• Active Professional Engineer license in Texas and/or Louisiana or the ability to obtain a Texas PE license within four months of hire
• EIT candidates will be considered if they have passed the PE exam
• An established NCEES Record is preferred.
• Experience with structural engineering/design software such as STAAD.Pro, Foundation 3D, MAT3D, Shaft3D, DS Anchor, Dyna6, IDEA StatiCa, RAM Connection, or comparable structural analysis and design tools.
