Job summary

Marchant Recruitment seeks a Senior Structural Engineer for an experienced steel erection team in the United States. The role focuses on engineering steel erection strategies, from planning to on-site installation, ensuring safe, compliant, and practical solutions.

Responsibilities include developing erection methodologies, performing calculations for temporary works, and reviewing lifting arrangements. Requires 3+ years in structural steel, plus proficiency with Tekla/AutoCAD/STAAD.Pro/SAP2000.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years' experience in structural engineering within structural steel, steel erection.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel design and engineering principles.
  • Experience with structural calculations and steelwork design.
  • Proficient with Tekla, AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000 or similar.

  • Develop and review steel erection methodologies and sequences.
  • Carry out structural calculations relating to erection stages, temporary stability and temporary works.
  • Assess structural stability throughout the erection process.
  • Design and assess temporary works, temporary bracing, supports and restraints.
  • Review lifting arrangements and provide engineering input into lifting and installation strategies.
  • Assess load paths, lifting points, temporary connections and erection conditions.
  • Produce engineering calculations, technical reports, sketches and supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with site teams to ensure erection methodologies are practical and achievable.
  • Provide engineering solutions to technical issues encountered during erection.
  • Review structural drawings and fabrication information from an erection perspective.
  • Liaise with clients, principal contractors, structural engineers and other project stakeholders.
  • Attend sites where required to inspect works, provide technical support and resolve engineering issues.
  • Assist with the planning and sequencing of complex steel erection operations.
  • Identify engineering risks associated with erection activities and develop appropriate control measures.

Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join a well-established and growing steel erection business.

This is a technically focused role centered around the engineering of steel erection, supporting projects from planning and methodology through to safe and efficient installation on site.

You will be responsible for developing practical engineering solutions for steel erection, considering temporary stability, erection sequences, lifting requirements, connections, temporary works and site conditions. Working closely with project managers, site teams, contractors and clients, you will ensure erection strategies are technically sound, practical and compliant with relevant standards.
