Job summary
AME Design Group in Downers Grove, IL seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the full structural scope for design/build projects across Industrial, Self-storage, and more. The candidate will guide designs from concept to project opening, leveraging strong software skills and a proactive, innovative approach.
We value PE/SE licensure and 5–15 years of progressive design experience, with a passion for mentoring teams and delivering cost-effective, high-quality structures.
Qualifications
- BS in Civil, Architectural, or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure preferred; ARCO will support pursuit.
- 5–15 years of design experience with increasing complexity.
- Experience with structural software: ETABS, SAFE, SAP, RAM, Enercalc, L-Pile, etc.
- BIM experience required; Revit essential, Tekla Structures a plus.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed structural designs for design/build projects across multiple types.
- Design and specify structural systems including load calculations and lateral/gravity analysis.
- Lead projects with engineering and modeling staff to deliver complete design packages.
- Support development of automated design methods and tools.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors on technical issues as structural expert.
- Participate in budgeting, scheduling, and staff management.

As an integrated design partner of ARCO/Murray, we are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in Downers Grove, IL. The Senior Structural Engineer will be responsible for guiding the full structural scope and leading the development of structural system designs in support of design/build projects, including Industrial, Self-storage, Controlled Environments, Entertainment, Multi-Family, and other types of facilities.
- Prepare detailed structural designs for design/build projects across several project-types.
- Design and specify structural systems including load calculations, gravity and lateral system analysis, structural details, and connections for various projects.
- Work with our multi-disciplined engineering team to deliver projects.
- Lead projects with supporting engineering and modeling staff to deliver comprehensive structural design packages.
- Assist in the development of industry-leading automated design methods and tools as part of a forward-thinking, innovation-focused team of engineers and R&D staff.
- Work with our fabrication modeling team to facilitate successful project execution.
- Provide value engineering reviews and alternatedesign options to maximize cost savings, optimize lead times, and better execute projects.
- Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors on technical issues as structural expert
- Participate in budgeting, scheduling, and staff management.
- Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations
- Preferred prior experience working as a consulting structural engineer
- 5 - 15 years of design experience of increasing complexity projects
- BS in Civil, Architectural, or Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure is preferred; AME Design Group will support the pursuit of additional licensure
- Able to organize, plan and manage multiple activities/projects to accomplish desired results
- Expertise utilizing structural engineering software such as Etabs, SAFE, SAP, RAM, Enercalc, L-pile, etc. for structural design
- BIM experience – Revit required, Tekla Structures is a plus
- Industrial and Warehouse building design experience is a plus
- Steel connection design experience is a plus
- Load-bearing, Cold-Formed metal framing (CFMF) design experience is a plus
- Familiarity and experience with creating advanced design spreadsheets is a plus
- Experience with parametric design approaches using Grasshopper, Dynamo, and other methods is a plus
- Programming language/coding experience such as VBA, C#, Python, and other languages is a plus
