Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a Civil/Structural Engineer to act as a responsible charge engineer for bridge design and rehabilitation projects. You will lead design teams, coordinate with consultants, and ensure adherence to AASHTO and LRFD standards while managing schedules and documentation.

The role requires strong analytical skills, effective communication with diverse stakeholders, and a PE license. Experience with MicroStation, MS Office, and engineering software is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
• Experience applying civil engineering principles to structural engineering including strength of materials, statics and structural analysis.
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD design standards and related regulations.
• Valid Professional Engineer license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare preliminary and final bridge and structure designs for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects.
• Coordinate design activities with other sections, divisions and consultants to meet project requirements.
• Review plans to ensure correctness and compliance with AASHTO and VDOT guidelines.
• Provide technical guidance and oversee construction and inspection of structures and bridges.
