Job summary

Pyramid Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Senior Stress Engineer for a 6-12 month contract, onsite in Wichita, KS. You will perform static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analyses for aircraft structures and develop substantiation reports for regulatory authorities.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, 5+ years' aerospace stress analysis experience, and proficiency with NASTRAN/PATRAN/Abaqus and NASGRO. CAD: CATIA V5/V6; FAA/EASA experience beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional stress analysis experience in aerospace.
  • Experience with structural analysis of aircraft or aerospace structures.
  • Hands-on static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with FEA and structural analysis methodologies.
  • Experience with aircraft design and certification processes.
  • Proficiency with FEA solvers: NASTRAN, PATRAN, Abaqus.
  • Familiarity with NASGRO or equivalent crack-growth methodologies.
  • 3D CAD: CATIA V5/V6.

Responsibilities

  • Perform static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analyses for primary and secondary aircraft structures.
  • Conduct structural analysis using classical hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Analyze metallic and composite airframe structures, including load paths, joints, fittings, frames, skins, spars, and other structural components.
  • Develop, review, and approve formal structural substantiation reports for regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to establish structural load paths and optimize structural weight.
  • Perform finite element modeling, analysis, and post-processing using industry-standard aerospace tools.
  • Conduct damage tolerance and crack-growth assessments using NASGRO or comparable tools.
  • Evaluate MRB dispositions for non-conforming hardware and assess structural implications of repairs.
  • Support evaluation and substantiation of fleet in-service repairs and modifications.
  • Participate in Conceptual Design Reviews, PDR, and CDR.
  • Present technical analysis, assumptions, results, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Work with manufacturing, design, materials, certification, and airworthiness teams to resolve structural issues.
  • Ensure analyses comply with aerospace standards and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analyses for primary and secondary aircraft structures.

  • Conduct damage tolerance and crack-growth assessments using applicable methodologies and tools such as NASGRO.
  • Evaluate Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions for non-conforming hardware and assess structural implications of proposed repairs.
  • Support evaluation and substantiation of fleet in-service repairs and modifications.
  • Participate in Conceptual Design Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
  • Present technical analysis, assumptions, results, and recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-functional review teams.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, design, materials, certification, and airworthiness teams to resolve structural issues.
  • Ensure structural analyses comply with applicable aerospace standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional stress analysis experience within the aerospace industry.
  • Strong experience performing structural analysis of aircraft or aerospace structures.
  • Hands-on experience with static strength, fatigue, and damage tolerance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, load paths, stress distribution, failure modes, and material behavior.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and structural analysis methodologies.
  • Ability to perform and document detailed engineering calculations and structural substantiation.
  • Experience working with aircraft design and certification processes.
