Job summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking an experienced Stress Analysis Engineer in Colorado to lead and perform structural analyses for missile propulsion components across the full development lifecycle. You’ll mentor junior analysts, integrate FE models with design reviews, and ensure stress checks meet performance and safety goals.

The role requires strong collaboration across engineering teams, proficiency with NX/Nastran, Abaqus, and related FE tools, and a track record of delivering high-quality

Qualifications

  • Professional experience performing stress analysis of metallic structures.
  • Experience participating in multidisciplinary design reviews.
  • Experience using finite element tools such as NX/Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP and/or PATRAN.

Responsibilities

The Stress Analysis Engineer will take charge of moderate to complex structural analysis projects, help guide junior analysts, and support the technical side of propulsion subsystem stress work. The Stress Analysis Engineer will take charge of moderate to complex structural analysis projects, help guide junior analysts, and support the technical side of propulsion subsystem stress work. They'll connect the detailed finite‑element models with design reviews, making sure the stress checks hit the program’s performance, reliability, and safety goals.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Conduct stress analysis using linear and nonlinear solutions to define and evaluate missile propulsion subsystem and components from early concept through flight.
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on models, reports, and deliverables.
  • Partner across a multidisciplinary engineering team to ensure structural integrity throughout the product lifecycle and guide design trades and decisions.
  • Define and support structural test requirements, provide predictions, oversee test execution, and lead post-test activities to ensure requirements and objectives are met.
  • Prepare and present technical findings with clarity and confidence to internal teams, customers, and program leadership at key design reviews and technical forums.
  • Deliver high-quality analysis products and documentation.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications
  • Professional experience performing stress analysis of metallic structures
  • Experience participating in multidisciplinary design reviews
  • Experience using finite element tools (NX/Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP, and/or PATRAN or similar)
Desired Skills
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in the planning and execution of structural development and qualification testing
  • Experience with Thermo-Structural analysis of high temperature alloys such as propulsion related hardware, jet and rocket engines, heat shields, solid or liquid rocket propulsion including hot gas systems, or any supporting or adjacent high temperature hardware
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
  • Self-motivated, and able and willing to support multiple projects

Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $95900.00 - $178100.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
