Job description

Location: Dallas, TX | Hybrid or Remote in US

Compensation: $100,000–$140,000

Reports to: Head of Strategic Analytics

Role Overview

A nonprofit focused on improving housing access and reducing child poverty is seeking a Senior Strategy Analyst to help government and policy leaders make better decisions with data. This is a consultative role for someone who can take an ambiguous question, determine what evidence is available, and turn complex analysis into practical guidance, particularly when resources are limited and allocation decisions are difficult.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with city officials, foundations, and other stakeholders to clarify open-ended policy questions and define an analytical approach.
  • Identify, query, and combine publicly available datasets, including the American Community Survey (ACS), CDC data, Department of Education data, Feeding America data, and state and local government sources.
  • Work through messy, incomplete, and inconsistent data, including records obtained through FOIA requests, to develop credible analyses.
  • Apply statistical methods such as regression, hypothesis testing, and causal inference, while being clear about the limitations of the data and methods.
  • Translate findings into recommendations that can inform policy, community programs, and complex resource allocation decisions.
  • Present analyses and recommendations with confidence to senior government and policy leaders.
Requirements
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience with a master’s degree, or 2 years with a PhD.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills and proficiency in R, Python, or Stata.
  • Experience working with public datasets, especially data that requires substantial cleaning, reconciliation, or interpretation.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, government, public policy, or think tank setting.
  • The judgment to navigate ambiguous requests, challenge assumptions, and distinguish what the evidence shows from what it cannot establish.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders.
  • A genuine interest in public systems, community programs, and using evidence to improve outcomes.
