About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Store Planner to develop fixture plans and architectural criteria drawings for new stores, relocations, expansions, remodels, and special projects. This role will make site‑specific design and layout decisions while ensuring plans meet established brand standards, construction requirements, budget guidelines, and operational needs.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in retail store planning, architecture, interior design, or architectural drafting, along with hands‑on experience using Revit and AutoCAD.
Responsibilities
- Develop site‑specific fixture plans, floor plans, and architectural drawings for new stores, relocations, expansions, remodels, and special projects.
- Analyze project data and site conditions to determine efficient store layouts, support areas, department adjacencies, and customer/associate flow.
- Ensure plans comply with established planning guidelines, prototype requirements, construction specifications, budgets, lease requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Collaborate with Store Planning, Design, Construction, Store Operations, Merchandise Planning, Architects, and external consultants.
- Review site surveys and existing conditions for design‑build projects and incorporate findings into design development.
- Troubleshoot site‑specific planning and construction challenges and develop practical, creative solutions.
- Coordinate drawing revisions and communicate changes to internal and external project teams.
- Ensure accurate and timely distribution and archiving of drawings and project documentation.
- Provide technical guidance to Store Planners and outside consultants regarding planning standards and prototype requirements.
- Assign and coordinate projects with Store Planners and external consultants to support construction and store‑opening schedules.
- Participate in design‑build meetings and collaborate with Architects and Construction teams to resolve project requirements.
- Support additional special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of related planning experience in retail design, store planning, interior design, architecture, or a closely related field.
- Working knowledge of Revit with experience clearly demonstrated on the resume or in the professional summary.
- Experience with architectural drawings, space planning, or layout development.
- Strong understanding of building architecture, construction procedures, and applicable codes.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong time‑management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with retail store planning and fixture layouts.
- Experience working with retail prototypes, store standards, or chain‑specific planning guidelines.
- Experience working with Architects, Construction teams, and outside consultants.
- Associate degree or certificate in Architecture, Architectural Engineering Technology, Interior Design, or a related field.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Why This Role Matters
This position directly supports a large‑scale store development and remodeling program, with new stores costing more than $1 million to construct and remodel projects averaging $350,000–$450,000. The team currently supports approximately 125–150 new stores and 200 remodels annually.
