Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Storage Administrator to manage SAN, NAS, and cloud-based storage platforms in a high-demand environment. You will provision storage, tune performance, and maintain runbooks, while ensuring security controls and audit logs are in place.

The role requires 5–7 years of advanced SAN/NAS experience, strong documentation, and collaboration with virtualization and database teams. On-site Nashville deployment with potential after-hours shifts and DR testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• 5–7 years of progressive SAN/NAS storage experience.
• Advanced SAN administration experience, including zoning and fabric management.
• NAS administration experience, including CIFS/SMB, NFS, and Active Directory permissions.
• Strong backup and recovery operations experience, including on-premises and cloud-based solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; thorough documentation.
• Incident response and multitasking capabilities; willingness to work after hours.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of SAN, NAS, and cloud-based storage platforms.
• Provision storage, manage access, perform zoning/masking, tune performance, and execute lifecycle tasks.
• Maintain configuration standards, runbooks, procedures, asset inventories, mappings, and utilization records.
• Perform system health checks and validate firmware and code levels.
• Monitor storage health and performance and serve as escalation point for incidents.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Participate in disaster recovery testing, and backup validation.
• Execute and improve snapshots, replication, and backup/restore operations aligned with RPO/RTO.
• Apply storage security controls, encryption policies, and audit logs.
• Support application, virtualization, and database teams.
• Develop and maintain SOPs and knowledge articles.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to planning and change discussions.
• Track capacity, performance trends, utilization, and compliance.
• Generate operational reports and coordinate vendor support and firmware guidance.
• Participate in hardware migrations and decommissioning.

Job description

• Manage daily operations of SAN, NAS, and cloud-based storage platforms
• Provision storage, manage access, perform zoning/masking, tune performance, and execute lifecycle tasks
• Maintain configuration standards, runbooks, procedures, asset inventories, mappings, and utilization records
• Perform system health checks and validate firmware and code levels
• Monitor storage health and performance and serve as the primary escalation point for complex incidents
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions
• Participate in disaster recovery testing, failover exercises, and backup validation
• Execute and improve snapshots, replication, and backup/restore operations aligned with RPO/RTO requirements
• Apply and monitor storage security controls, encryption policies, key management practices, and audit logs
• Support application, research computing, virtualization, and database teams
• Develop and maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles
• Mentor junior staff and contribute operational insights to planning and change discussions
• Track capacity, performance trends, utilization, availability, and compliance
• Generate operational reports and coordinate vendor support cases, RMA processes, and firmware guidance
• Participate in hardware migrations and decommissioning
• Perform rotating after-hours on-call duties
• Report administratively and functionally to the Director of Open Systems and Storage

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience is necessary
• 5–7 years of relevant, progressive experience is necessary
• Advanced SAN administration experience, including zoning and fabric management
• NAS administration experience, including CIFS/SMB, NFS, and Active Directory permissions
• Advanced knowledge of backup and recovery operations, including on-premises and cloud-based solutions
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Effective multitasking and incident response skills
• Demonstrated commitment to VUIT’s Guiding Principles
• Cisco SAN experience preferred
• Experience with DELL/EMC, Pure, and IBM storage strongly preferred
• Linux administration experience and familiarity with Nagios, SCOM, and Ansible strongly preferred
