Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician II to decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute reusable surgical instruments and implants. You will operate autoclaves and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, ensure proper packaging, and maintain sterilization records.

Responsibilities include assembling instrument sets, decontaminating equipment, coordinating with OR and other departments, and training junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

• High School or equivalent.
• Completion of a Sterile Processing Program or accredited Surgical Technician program; if not completed, 3 years of Sterile Processing experience.
• 1 year Sterile Processing experience.
• Basic knowledge of Windows OS and computer use.
• Ability to operate washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Current Sterile Processing Certification (HSPA/ CBSPD) or CST/TS-C credential with renewal.
• LA City Fire Life Safety Training within 30 days of hire (where applicable).

Responsibilities

• Assemble and package instrument sets per protocols and verify functionality.
• Disassemble, wash, decontaminate, and load washers per IFU.
• Operate and maintain sterilization and disinfection equipment and document QA activities.
• Dispense sterile instrumentation to locations and maintain inventory.
• Coordinate with OR and other departments to ensure smooth processing flows.
• Troubleshoot equipment and instrument issues with OR and external vendors.
• Prepare loads and ensure proper packaging and sterilization indicators.
• Follow SPD policies, procedures, and SOPs in all duties.
