Job summary

UTMB Health in Galveston, Texas is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician I for the Evening shift (2:45 p.m. – 11:50 p.m.). You will support the Sterile Processing department by handling decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and case cart preparation.

Under supervision, you will ensure instrument readiness, follow safety procedures, use instrument tracking systems, and communicate issues to the supervisor to maintain patient safety and efficient theatre operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four (4) years related experience and CRCST or CSPDT certification.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Supervisor, assists in carrying out the responsibilities for the overall work flow of the assigned shift and coordinates of an assigned medical or surgical specialty and the instrumentation and equipment processed for that specialty.
• Instrumentation Decontamination: Decontaminates surgical instruments and other medical equipment as needed by keeping a continuous flow of equipment moving through the process.
• Instrumentation Assembly: Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assembly. Assembles surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Four (4) years related experience

Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CSPDT certification
