Job summary

The State of Indiana seeks a Steam Plant Operator at Heritage Trail Correctional Facility in Plainfield to manage boiler operations, water treatment, and safety compliance. You will supervise staff and offenders, perform routine maintenance, and ensure IDEM data logging and reporting throughout shifts.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of industrial operations experience; certification within 12 months and successful drug screenings are required.

Qualifications

• Must obtain within twelve (12) months, the Facility Operator 3rd Class certification.
• Test negative on all drug screenings.
• Working knowledge of all phases of Steam Plant operation.
• Working knowledge of methods and equipment used in operation of coal and oil-fired boilers if the position is based at AGO.
• Must complete the IDOC Supervisory Training.

Responsibilities

• Make periodic inspections of boiler fires and ensure safe operation.
• Take readings and maintain data logs per IDEM requirements.
• Assist in overhaul and maintenance of boilers and related equipment.
• Train and supervise Steam Plant personnel and offenders on assigned shifts.
• Ensure safe, efficient Steam Plant operations and participate in emergency procedures.
