Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Statistician III to join the Statistics and Data Science department. The role applies mathematical statistics and survey methodology, including sampling, weighting, and variance estimation, to diverse projects across health, society, economics, and global research for trustworthy data and insights.

They design robust analytic workflows, support data privacy, and develop dashboards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in statistics or related field; Ph.D. preferred.
• 4 years of experience in statistics, analytics, or survey research.
• Experience with data visualization tools (R, Tableau, Power BI).
• Strong foundation in mathematical statistics and study design.
• Proficiency in R and Python; SAS is a plus.
• Experience with reproducible research practices (version control, testing).
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize.
• Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide statistical expertise across projects, including study design and advanced methods; contribute to technical planning and manage quality of work.
• Lead survey statistics tasks, including sample weighting and variance estimation; contribute to reports.
• Develop robust data pipelines to support reproducible analyses and ML/AI applications.
• Uphold data disclosure limitation and privacy best practices for releases.
• Create dashboards and visualizations; set data visualization standards.
• Write SAS, R, and Python programs to extract/manipulate data and run analyses.
• Mentor early career staff; contribute to proposals and business development.
• Present results to clients and professional audiences.
