Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Statistician III in the Statistics and Data Science department. You will apply statistics, survey methodology, and ML/AI to diverse health, society, economics, and global research projects, delivering reproducible analyses and robust data products.

You will mentor junior staff, present results to clients, and contribute to proposals. The hybrid role requires in-office presence in Chicago or DC, with remote work possible for outstanding candidates.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in statistics or a related field is required; Ph.D. preferred.
• 4 years of experience in statistics, analytics, survey research, or related field (or Ph.D.).
• Experience with data visualization tools (R, Tableau, Power BI) and data privacy methods.
• Strong foundation in mathematical statistics and study design.
• Proficiency in R and Python; SAS is a plus.
• Experience with reproducible research, version control, testing, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide statistical expertise across projects, including study design and advanced methods; manage quality of work products.
• Lead survey statistics tasks: sample design, weighting, nonresponse analyses, variance estimation.
• Develop robust data pipelines and ML/AI applications for scalable analyses.
• Uphold data disclosure limitations and data privacy practices for releases and restricted-use data.
• Create dashboards and data visualizations; set standards for projects.
• Design and develop programs for data cleaning, transformation, and validation; maintain data documentation.
• Write SAS, R, and Python programs for data extraction and analysis.
• Establish reproducible analytic workflows with version control and testing.
• Present results to clients and stakeholders; clarify needs and provide recommendations.
• Mentor early career staff and contribute to proposals and business development.
